Description of Event

The 125 participants in this Henrico County Civil War Re-enactment were dedicated to bringing one of American military history’s profound moments back to life: the late September 1864 Battle of New Market Heights. After a demanding day spent honoring the past, with many hungry reenactors, the challenge for the event organizers was to provide a fitting dinner that marked the end of “hostilities”, a meal that was both comforting and historically authentic, delivered efficiently.

Dixie Bones was entrusted to provide event catering that aligned with the logistical needs of the day. Our approach focused on authenticity and speed. We brought the full, savory BBQ experience directly to Henrico County, including the crucial detail of chopping the pork BBQ on site for peak freshness and flavor. This was complemented by expertly smoked chicken, hearty baked beans, traditional potato salad, fresh buns, and a warm apple cobbler.

To ensure rapid service for all 125 physically demanding re-enactors, we strategically deployed two double-sided buffet lines. This optimized setup guaranteed swift throughput, allowing the participants to transition immediately from the field to their celebratory dinner without delay.

The result was a seamless and satisfying conclusion to a historically demanding day. Dixie Bones delivered an authentic, high-quality meal for 125 people that served as the perfect and hunger-satisfying conclusion to this historical event.
