Dixie Bones is featured in the 2006 book featuring Americas best rib joints. "For his smokin' ribs, Head orders the best quality meat, has it custom trimmed into very meaty St Louis cut racks, and smokes it over hickory wood for two to four hours, depending upon the thickness of the rib. But he truly believes the most important quality of a true Southern restaurant is the delectable, homemade side dishes including collard greens, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw made from garden fresh cabbage....and four or five pies."

Heads was a popular restaurant on Capitol Hill in Washington. It's where Nelson Head and Kris Wolfe started. Heads was featured on the cover of the magazine. "...this is the best barbecue you'll taste in DC. A native of Alabama, owner Nelson Head credits his mother for her recipes. Cooked in a Southern Pride Pit, his reddish-brown-crusted ribs, commendably moist chopped pork, and golden skin chicken are suffused with just the right degree of hickory smoke flavor." We opened Dixie Bones in Woodbridge six months after the article appeared.

"We had a large party of 30 and Dixie Bones did a great job. We called ahead and they had things set up for us when we arrived.
I ordered the giant stuffed potato with pulled pork, sour cream, and cheese. There are 4 sauces to choose from at each table and they were all excellent. I enjoyed the sauce in the brown bottle which was smoky with a slight tang. I also ordered the corn bread, mac n cheese, and baked beans. Way too much food but I was able to take home the leftovers. The stuffed potato was excellent. We put in our order and it was out in 5 minutes. We had 27 people and they kept the food flowing out easily. The sweet tea is amazing as well.
I haven’t been here in 17 years bc I no longer work in the area. It was great then in still great now. If you want great bbq, check this place out!!"
